Catellus Development Group officially broke ground on November 14, 2007, on the Seton Family of Hospitals’ new headquarters at Mueller during a ceremony held near the site of Mueller’s future town center. Bringing Central Texas’ largest healthcare provider and second largest private employer to an area of the city that has been historically underutilized, Seton’s relocation to the mixed-use community in Central Austin marks an important milestone for business in Austin.

“We are proud to be making this move and joining in the exciting things happening east of I-35,” said Charles J. Barnett, president and CEO of the Seton Family Hospitals. “We welcome the opportunity to be a part of furthering the vision of a mixed-use development at Mueller. Further, relocating our administrative staff to Mueller creates opportunities for us to serve more patients in our existing spaces and puts us in the prime location to best serve the region as it continues to grow.”

Seton’s new headquarters building sits on 3.25 acres and will house approximately 650 associates from administrative leadership, human resources, facilities, legal services, communications, advocacy, marketing and planning departments. Construction on the 156,000 square-foot development is expected to be complete by the end of 2008.

“Having solid anchors such as Seton creates the activity and vitality that makes a diverse community possible and will help support the smaller offices, local retailers and professional services that are important to the Mueller vision,” said Matt Whelan, senior vice president of Catellus Development Group, master developer of Mueller.

Seton is currently the largest healthcare provider for Central Texas, serving 11 counties and a total population of 1.7 million in its 23 clinical locations. The Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas, the most recent facility of Seton’s Family of Hospitals, opened in June and is located just north of the future Seton headquarters building at Mueller.

“Mueller is already becoming a major force in the economic development of Central Austin and adding one of Austin’s most notable corporate citizens to the community contributes to the ongoing revitalization of the area,” said Austin City Council Member Brewster McCracken. “Beyond its own employees, Seton’s move to Mueller will also help draw other businesses to the community and the surrounding neighborhoods.”
